Mac. X emulator has problems when used with Mac. OS Sierra, where the sound won’t work at all. If you really depend on it to run your favorite Atari software on Mac, you have another option.
Altirra, an excellent Atari emulator for Windows was re- packaged to run on Mac. OS, using a standalone Wine bundle. Wine (originally an acronym for “Wine Is Not an Emulator”) is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX- compliant operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OSX, & BSD. The bundle allows Mac users to run Altirra without having to install and configure Wine themselves. Everything is pre- packaged in a Mac.
OS . app file. Although it is not a native Mac. OS experience, the emulator runs very well and it is a great alternative while Atari. Mac. X developers work on a fix for the sound problem. Altirra download file is fairly big, 3. MB but that is because the bundle also contains Wine and all Windows DLLs needed to run the software.
It is a small price to pay for the convenience. The fact the bundle doesn’t contain any Developer certificate will prevent it to run unless you change the configuration in Settings - > Security. Source: Antic Podcast.
